With Christmastime fast approaching, as does the sudden realization that you have no clue what to get your friends and family for gifts.
Travel lovers are especially hard to shop for, as oftentimes they care little about possessions and would much rather have little and experience much.
Being a travel bug myself, I thought I’d whip up a fun list of travel gift ideas that active travellers like myself would love and appreciate. Everything on this list is extremely practical and items that I know would be used on a regular basis, They also have an element of fun and style to them which is great when giving as a gift to someone.
Skip wandering through the crowded mall trying to find a thoughtful gift and instead check out one of these options instead and have it shipped right to you.
Travel Passport Wallet
This is the ultimate wallet to use during travel, since it has slots to fit a passport and boarding passes, along with your credit cards, phone and ID. The ID slot has an RFID blocking layer which lowers your risk of someone snatching your identity while you’re travelling which is another huge plus.
I also love the concept of using this product as a gift since it comes in so many different colours, so it’s easy to customize it to how they would like it best. It’s an extremely practical tool for travellers, but also is very pleasing to the eye and works great as a travel gift idea.
Noise Cancelling Headphones
When travelling, especially by plane, having the ability to block out some of the noise around you is a huge help.
Seriously, trying to sleep with a screaming baby behind you on a 10-hour flight is next to impossible without some sort of barrier! Having a pair of comfortable earbuds that are much more compact than large headsets is great for travel, and you also don’t need to worry about cords getting tangled as these are wireless.
Travelling or not, having high-quality wireless headphones is always a helpful thing to have, which makes this such a versatile gift that can be used over and over again.
Leak-Proof Owl Shaped Travel Bottles & Containers
Having some of these little silicone bottles around the house is always helpful for someone often on the go.
They’re refillable which means you can use them as many times as you’d like, and they also are under the 100mL limit so you can pop these in a carry-0n bag no problem. They’re ideal for filling up with shampoo, sunscreen, lotion, you name it.
These guys, in particular, go above and beyond, since the owl eyes on the larger bottles are actually suction cups that you can use to stick to the side of a mirror/shower. Anything that saves me some space in the bathroom is appreciated, especially in a teeny hotel room!
I also really love how this set comes with two containers of creams too! So helpful and something I’m often needing but can’t find in stores.
On top of all that, well, I mean look at them. They’re cute little owls gosh darnit. Since these are both highly functional and cute, I could see them making great stocking stuffers, or perfect for a secret santa exchange.
Personalized Passport Holder
Making sure your passport’s as safe and secure as can be is extremely important, especially when travelling regularly. This case even has an added slot for a couple of credit cards and a boarding pass. So freaking helpful and limits the number of things you need to search for in your bag while going through security and boarding.
As for the fun stuff, the amount of different designs and patterns you can choose from is insane! I also really love how you can add a name to the front making it such a thoughtful travel gift idea that feels truly one-of-a-kind.
Portable Battery Pack
Airports are notorious for not having enough power outlets available, so having the ability to charge up your phone or tablet (at the same time) is a great asset. I’ve even experienced not having somewhere to charge my phone during a 14+ hour flight, so as you may imagine having a battery pack saved my life.
I personally own this exact battery pack and I have nothing but good things to say about it. It’s extremely durable – I once somehow left it outside in the rain overnight, and it still works good as new. Although I don’t recommend you try that yourself 😉
I also find that the battery lasts through multiple phone charges, and I don’t find myself needing to charge it back up often.
As an added bonus, this comes with a woollen wrap-around case that also has a slot for your charging cables. It’s so nice to just be able to reach into your bag without really looking and have it all ready to go for you in a little safe bundle.
I also find this little rectangular design to be so cute and less boring than other battery packs I’ve seen, and it also comes in bold colours. Once again, another great idea for a stocking stuffer that’s both thoughful and higly practical!
Having a designated place to document your travels, or even just how you’re feeling during the whole experience is so valuable.
I love to look back through my old travel journals and remember the things I experienced, but also how I was actually doing at the time. I’m often surprised at the range of emotions travelling (especially long-term) can bring out, so having a space to let it all out is highly therapeutic.
If you know someone who’s about to go on a big trip, I think this would be such a thoughtful gift. It can double as either a journal or a scrapbook, or even a bit of both!
These are much nicer than just using a plain boring notebook, I love the vintage style to these as well and I think it would make a lovely gift.
I’m obsessed with packing cubes, I think they’re one of the most simple and helpful inventions out there that every avid traveller should have.
Basically, it’s just a way for you to keep your suitcase organized since you can easily section off items of clothing into their own individual cube. It’s also a major space saver since you can fill these up to the brim and sort them all away into your suitcase, duffel bag, or backpack.
This particular set also comes with a laundry bag, a shoe bag, and a toiletry pouch, so there’s really no need for any loose items to be getting lost or buried in your suitcase.
This set comes in so many different colour and design options, and also has cute quotes printed on some of the bags which adds an element of fun and style to this gift.
Luggage tags are always a useful thing to have, especially in sets of two or more like this one since a lot of the time you’ll be travelling with multiple bags.
Having a spot with your name and information is very helpful, especially in case your luggage gets lost, but also as a way to identify your things from the rest. I’m always so paranoid about losing my luggage or grabbing someone else’s by mistake, so I love using luggage tags to make everything as fool-proof as possible.
Once again, there are so many pretty options to choose from, so there’s definitely a style in there that will suit who you’re shopping for.
As someone who travels often, I can say that it’s great to keep track of the places you’ve visited. With this map, you can scratch off the different countries (and even states and provinces) that you’ve been to around the world.
It makes for great decor in any travel lovers’ home, and I also love the interactive element of scratching each place off (sooo satisfying). In my eyes, this is one of the best travel gift ideas out there as it’s one just about anyone would love.
And there we have it! A list of some great travel gift ideas for the globetrotter in your life.
